New Construction Site Sales - just below cage fighting?

I was recently told that new construction sales is a job just above being a cage fighter.  Ouch!  A sales trainer used that analogy when speaking to a group of 30+ sales people who primarily sell new construction.  We enjoy helping home buyers and the builder we represent....so this was a bit hard to understand.
 
It is my thought that the trainer was trying to share compassion with how difficult our job can - feel.  We do have those days when no potential buyers walk through the model home - these days are long.  We experience the visitor that drove all the way out to the community but will not share ANY personal information about what they are looking for in a home or what excites them about the space of a home.  There are those people who are enthusiastic about buying a home but have no intention of ever buying a home yet spend hours with you making you think they will buy.  We have prospects that are unemployed, have a home or homes to sell but have not listed yet, we have visitors that are just looking at paint colors.  Yes, this job can be discouraging and we can get beaten down (like a cage fighter).
 
All the discouragement is wiped out by a great moment when a potential home buyer shares what particular features or space that they have dreamed about owning.  When they have determined through research that this community is the best location for planting roots.  They give you information about the way they live.  They want the sales person to help them find a HOME that best fits their way of living in that space.  In all they want to buy a home, they are financially capable of buying a home, they are ready to buy a home and they want your assistance.  That is such a fun day for everyone.
 
My suggestion to those that are considering the idea of new construction....Help us help you!!!  If you are driving all the way out to a community anticipate that you will be asked questions.  Anticipate that the builder representative will try to discover what you value and how you live in a home.  They know the product and the plans and can best assess what space will optimize your vision of a home.  This is the most money you will spend in your lifetime and we want to be your guide. 
 
I would never consider selling new construction as a "sales job".  It is about delivering a dream of space and design.  Building the spaces that memories will be created and housed.  This is a dream job!
